Your Myotherapist can provide assessment and treatment for a range of hip-related musculoskeletal conditions and complaints. Some of the hip conditions they are able to treat include:

Hip Pain: Your Myotherapist can assess and treat non-specific hip pain that may be due to muscle imbalances, overuse, or postural issues.

Hip Bursitis: Bursitis is the inflammation of the bursa sacs, which are fluid-filled cushions that reduce friction between bones and soft tissues. Your Myotherapist can use techniques to reduce inflammation and alleviate hip bursitis symptoms.

Piriformis Syndrome: The piriformis muscle, located in the buttocks, can become tight and irritate the sciatic nerve, leading to hip and buttock pain. Your Myotherapist can employ techniques to release tension in the piriformis muscle.

Hip Labral Tears: Labral tears can cause hip pain and instability. Your Myotherapist can help manage pain through soft tissue techniques and provide exercises to support hip stability.

Hip Osteoarthritis: While your Myotherapist cannot reverse arthritis, they can assist in managing pain and improving function through muscle-strengthening exercises and mobility work.

Here's an overview of how your Myotherapist may assess and treat hip conditions:

Assessment:

Patient History: Your Myotherapist will begin by taking a detailed medical history, including information about your symptoms, when they started, and any relevant activities or events that may have contributed to your hip issue.

Physical Examination: Your Myotherapist will conduct a physical examination, assessing your hip range of motion, strength, and mobility. They will also palpate for areas of tenderness or muscle tightness.

Functional Assessment: Your Myotherapist may evaluate your posture and how you move to identify any biomechanical issues or muscle imbalances contributing to your hip problem.

Treatment:

Manual Therapy: Your Myotherapist will use hands-on techniques such as massage, myofascial release, dry needling, electrotherapy, trigger point therapy, and joint mobilisations to address muscle tension, improve circulation, and promote healing in the affected hip area.

Stretching Exercises: Your Myotherapist can prescribe specific stretching exercises to improve hip flexibility and reduce muscle tightness.

Strengthening Exercises: Your Myotherapist provide targeted exercises to strengthen muscles around the hip joint, enhancing stability and support.

Postural Correction: They may offer guidance on improving posture and ergonomics to prevent recurring hip issues.

Education: Your Myotherapist may provide education on lifestyle modifications, self-care techniques, including heat or ice application, and provide advice on activity modification to avoid exacerbating the condition.

Home Exercise Programs: Your Myotherapist may create a customised home exercise program to facilitate recovery and maintain progress between sessions.

Your Myotherapist will work closely with you to develop a personalised treatment plan based on the specific hip condition, your goals, and your overall health. For more complex or severe hip conditions, your Myotherapist may collaborate with other healthcare professionals such as orthopaedic specialists or physiotherapists to ensure comprehensive care.
