Here are the top reasons why people get neck pain and how Myotherapy can help!

Posture…
Our neck position can have a big effect on how the muscles around the neck and shoulders work. Often the muscles round the shoulders and neck become overworked trying to hold the head up, and we see a pattern of some muscles being too tight and some muscles becoming too weak. Almost everyone benefits by doing corrective exercises to help strengthen and condition the neck and upper body.
Bad Ergonomics…
In the era of working from home, we have seen the prevalence of neck pain skyrocket! Our necks were just not meant to be craning over a laptop for 8 hours a day, while we sit at the kitchen table. Once that tension sets in and the headaches commence, neck pain can become debilitating! Have a look at the below image to see if you can make some amendments to your current setup, or speak to us for customised advice for your situation.

Stress…
Neck pain can be further aggravated by stress. It’s important to ascertain if your pain may be exacerbated by stress and learn appropriate techniques to combat this. Simple breathing exercises, mindfulness, meditations or finding time to do the things you enjoy, can help reduce your stress levels. We can help tailor a plan to incorporate these strategies into your day, if your think stress is linked with your neck pain.
Sleeping position…
This ones for you tummy sleepers.. Sleeping on your stomach or with a poorly fitted pillow, can put your neck into a strained position and cause muscle hypertonicity (tightness). Neck pain that is worse in the morning, or waking with stiffness, can indicate that your neck position overnight may be contributing to your pain. We can advise you on how to change your sleeping position and check your pillow to see if it may be the culprit!
